As a coach, I attempt to tailor my work with students to match their individual needs and goals and maximize their strengths. Drawing from my background as a therapist and teacher, I also offer mindfulness strategies and self-compassion skills to help students with stress management and other challenges. I work with adolescents and adults on skills and strategies related to writing projects, including generating ideas, getting started, staying organized, setting goals, and meeting deadlines; as well as finding one's authentic voice and overcoming writer's block. We collaborate to improve any writing challenges, such as grammar, structure, clarity, message. For more information, email email@example.com.
What is mindfulness anyway? My favorite definition is from Amy Saltzman, MD: "Noticing what’s happening right here and now in a friendly, curious way, then choosing what to do next.” Sounds simple, right? But being present in the moment is often a challenge when we're distracted by so many demands, expectations, and distractions—both internal and external. Kids, too, often find it hard to settle their minds in our stimulation-saturated culture.
Mindfulness programs for kids are sprouting up in schools and after-school facilities and I couldn't be happier to know that children are finding strategies for slowing down, tuning in, and finding a quiet place inside.
But what about parents? If they're too stressed out or bubbling over with anxious or worried energy themselves, that energy seeps into the home and makes it hard for anyone to relax.
That's why I've developed a mindfulness program for the whole family. In this series, you will learn fun, practical skills that you and your child(ren) (ages 5 and up) can use for the present moment, and for a lifetime. Although quieting the mind can be considered spiritual in many ways, there is no religious component to this practice. You might think of it as stress management for the whole family, and a lot more.
Families may choose a program customized to their individual needs. We start with an introductory session just with the parent(s), then an initial family session, followed by 45-minute family sessions and follow-ups (minimum of four recommended). Each session includes specific lessons and easy, fun mindfulness skills to practice at home for maximum benefit. For a sample schedule, click here.
Mindfulness for Families sessions are not covered by insurance. The rate is $175 for the initial parent session; $150 per 45-minute family session. If you are interested in learning more, I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to discuss your family's needs and goals. Home visits may be arranged depending on schedule availability and distance. For more information, please use the contact form or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
I have been a licensed independent clinical social worker for over 30 years and have expertise in anxiety, depression, substance abuse and addictions, as well as general life worries, struggles, and unproductive habits that keep people from achieving their goals.
My gentle but active style helps clients move from feeling stuck to unstuck. I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which serves as an excellent basis for adding mindfulness-based, cognitive-behavioral, existential, and motivational approaches to guide people toward more happiness, less stress, more acceptance, and an increased sense of control over their lives.
Drawing from the latest research, extensive training, and experience as a longtime meditator, I bring to my work a strong mindfulness orientation. If desired and clinically appropriate, clients may learn techniques and strategies for quieting the mind and body, paying attention to the present moment, and learning to let go and accept what is. I view therapy as a collaborative endeavor and often incorporate therapeutic writing techniques to help clients develop increased inner awareness.
My office is in Newton Highlands; my rate is $150 for a 45-minute session. I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield but no other insurance. Please email me at email@example.com if you would like to schedule an appointment.
